Andrew and Arch :)
Putting on a park ranger's uniform! ;)
We couldn't go up in the Arch due to time restraints (the line was too long :( ), but we went underneath and saw a video explaining how it was constructed. Amazing!
The Cardinals game in progress (we weren't tempted to go ;)
Then, on to Highland, IL, to the house of Papa's cousin. She was kind enough to show us some of the sights associated with Papa -- the store he worked at as a young man, the house he grew up in, etc.
Does anyone know (or would like to guess) what this is for? Or is it just an odd decoration?
Uncle Ken ;)
Papa's father built this house, and Papa was raised here
To the cemetery -- thanks to Andrew's superb directional skills, we found Papa's grave before the other car (which held Mom, Papa's cousin, Uncle Ken, and Aunt Suzanne) did.
Papa's gravestone plaque
Papa's parents
"Over this way -- we've found them!"
Without knowing we were really looking for any other gravestones here, this group quickly found some relatives' gravestones!
Not related -- just an odd name ;)
Papa's cousin, Shirley. She thought that Andrew looked a lot like Papa as a young man.
Our "competition"
There's other gravestones to find -- who will find them first?
Ah-hah! We found another!
Rather a morbid sense of humor in whoever put up that sign, eh? ;)
Click on this picture to see a closer view of the "W grave-finding crew" in intense-search mode, striving for the grave-finding championship... ;)
Victory!
Andrew texts a picture to our rivals, to tell them we've found it
The face of victory :)
:)
A unique little "dots" design on this stone
Then on to another (smaller) cemetery -- and once again, we found the stone!
An interesting little poem
Micah flew his "quad" a bit...
Then -- on our way back to the place we were sleeping at...
