8th & Final CA Trip Post!

Micah looks cold -- maybe because it's cold outside! ;)

 Last things...

Within 5 minutes of driving, everything started to look like this, and snow started falling...

Everyone sitting utterly still in the mountain pass near Albuquerque, due to some wreck up ahead...

Never fear! Dad wouldn't do this unless no-one was moving -- we'd been sitting for an hour (and didn't know it, but we'd stay "parked" on the freeway for another hour...)

 Daddy :)

We became quite familiar with snowplows by the end of this day's drive!

 Art at a standstill

 Buildup

 It was beautiful, tho' cold!

 One obstruction

 Mountain

At as gas station -- watch your step!

 ;)

 Horses

 Another major slow-up...

I discovered one advantage of being stopped on a freeway with everyone else -- one can take better out-the-window photos! :)

Two semis who slid off the road (this is nothing to the rolled & jack-knifed vehicles we saw, but I couldn't snap a pic of them)

I've never seen the desert look exactly like this!

 Slow driving for everyone...

Now it's the other side who are stopped!

 Rest stop

Deborah is a fun person to have along on a trip! :)

One gas station had a car museum, so we spent an extra 5 minutes to look at it :)

When he was younger, Daddy almost bought a this kind of car. :) He could sit in the driver's seat and touch the ground with his hand. ;)

Cleaning off the windshield (amazing how quickly ice/spray could build up!)

My, it was nice to see this sign!!!

Late at night (or, really, early in the morning of the next day...)

We were so grateful to arrive home safe and sound, although much later than expected! What a special and fun and adventurous trip we had!

  1. Oh wow... snow in the desert! Not two words you'd normally think of in the same sentence!

You sure made good use of your time, though. :-D

  2. Yes, snow and desert seem strange together! ;) We saw snow for 18 hours, all the way from Albuquerque to Bailey! Quite a sight!

  3. I think the whole midwest got snow, or most of it.
We had a temp. drop and tons of rain. :-( No snow.
Oh well. They're predicting a very cold winter for us, so we'll probably see snow Jan or Feb.

    1. Yes, being able to see snow is a blessing! :)
The only thing was, it made 10 hours of driving turn into 18 hours of driving, since we had to drive slow and carefully! But it still was beautiful -- and even fun!
