  3. Dear Blog Author,

I tried to post this on the Days of Deb's blog but I guess I need to have something different than a Yahoo account, so I thought I'd put my thoughts here. I don't completely understand why some blogs allow comments and others don't.

    It concerns this blog post:http://daysofdebs.blogspot.com/2015/07/trip-2.html

I don't usually comment on blogs, but when I saw this post, I felt like I had to say something. Because of all the controversies swarming our nation, I think it might be unwise to display the Confederate flag and infer that someone felt less hypocritical about visiting the Lincoln museum when seeing the Wilkes Booth statue. There is, I think, a proper time to discuss what should be done about the flag, but displaying it on a blog without explanation or discussion is probably going to upset those who are using current situations to further their own agendas. Also, regardless of what one thinks about Lincoln, he was murdered (assassination kind of divorces us from the severity of that word) and his murderer should not be emulated for any reason. I'm not saying we can't thoughtfully and considerately express our own opinions on matters of history, but the way these things were communicated led me to think that if the wrong person saw them, there would be consequences that y'all might not want.

Like I said before, I don't comment on blogs - and I don't want to stop any of you from your rightful expression on your beliefs - but when I saw this post, I was like, "Oh my goodness, this is such a nice family and they might be risking liberal wrath by posting stuff like this!" I at least thought I should warn you.

    Sincerely,
    Libby P.

    1. Hello, Libby!

Thanks for taking the time to comment. :)

We agree 100% that it is wrong to murder, and that John Wilkes Booth was wrong!

Our family feels there were faults on both sides in the North-South controversy (as is often the case :).

Unfortunately, the Confederate flag (which should be viewed as a neat piece of history) has recently been given racially-charged modern implications that it shouldn't have. :( I believe Deborah put it as her blog's background for fun, but I'm sure she'll consider your comments. :)

Thanks for your comments, and I appreciate your thoughtfulness. :) I hope you have a lovely week!

      In Christ,
      Elisha for the W's
